Just Add Water

Have you ever just had one of those days? You know the one.  Everyone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, you are out of milk to make breakfast, you stub your pinkie toe on the corner of the wall walking to get dressed, laundry is piled high in the dirty clothes hamper, dishes in the sink, car needs gas, library books are overdue, kids are not happy with lunch menu, etc, etc, etc.

In our house, it is better to have a reset on the day than to continue on with the day.  It takes less time and energy to have an hour reset, than spend the whole day fighting Satan in the house (and sometimes Satan has a child's name- yes, I said it!).

We have found just adding a little water to the day can be just what we need to cleanse our day of bad moods or negative thinking.

WATER RESET

When the kids were younger, I would stick them in the bathtub to play while I read a talked with them or read a book or magazine on the floor beside them. They could be fussy one minute, but get them in that bathtub and they would be giggling for the whole hour. Water Reset.

We were lucky enough at our last house to have a pool.  Once they were old enough to swim independently, we would use the pool to help our day. The kiddos could be bickering with one another and griping at me, but I would insist they get into the pool. Within five minutes of being in the pool,  they would be playing games with each other. You know giggling with that same sibling who they couldn't stand the sight of ten minutes before. Water Reset.

We have even been known to throw a fishing trip into a week of the "icky" attitudes.  Just something about the peace and calmness out on the water provides that reset that we might all need. My husband can even tell when we need to just stick our toes in the water for a time. Water Reset.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, we were having one of those days at our house. The kiddos were trying their best of see which of my buttons they could push the most.  All three of them were thinking how the other siblings were born just to annoy and aggravate them.  It was quite a day. (Satan was having a good ole time up in here.) Just about the time I was looking for the zoo's phone number to give the kiddos a new home, I saw the glorious sight of rain falling from the sky. I knew what needed to be done.  We hurried outside to smell the cleansing rain and feel the blessings falling on our faces.  This rainstorm was sent at just the right moment. The kids hurried to the driveway to jump in puddle after puddle.

I knew our day had been reset when the kids were holding hands and dancing in the rain.  It was a blessing to sit on my front porch swing and hear the giggles and chatter from them. I realized that sometimes we still need to just add water

So whether it is a pool, a bathtub, a slip-n-slide, a garden hose, a sprinkler, a lake, or even a rainstorm, know that adding a little water can help reset your day.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10:22

Now off to more learning, laughter, and love (maybe with the help of a little water)!
